Staying motivated can be difficult. I find it important to me that I review my goals form time to time to re-energize myself. I think the stories make that energy even more powerful.

Thanks John. It's funny how this post came together. I wrote most of the content for this right after you posted your article on goal stories. Then I let it sit for a while because it just didn't seem complete. Then when I got the guidance to seek clarity, these stories seemed like the perfect fit.

Good stuff Henri! I'm a big believer in following your intuition, and good for you in recognizing it and following it. It's telling you to share this great goals with everyone and that's just what your doing.

Interesting, more public accountability. Thanks for sharing your personal experience and the info about the study. It's great to hear that some of these techniques actually work for real people.

Hi Eric. I really enjoyed reading this article. I think turning goals into stories is a great idea to add more motivation in wanting them. Your example about the Nintendo Wii and playing with your wife and daughter with an extra nun chuck makes it sound a lot more fun than just wanting a Nintendo Wii. Stories helps us bring feeling and emotion into the picture; without those two things, it's hard to keep motivation up until we reach our goals. Thanks for sharing and writing this. :)

Thanks for the link to my post, Eric.

I really like your stories. I can just picture you and your family playing the Wii and you becoming a successful writer. The emotions in each short story really came out. I hope you keep going strong to achieve those goals (even after the New Years hype is over).

Happy Holidays, my friend!

Stories are powerful. Our brain is hardwired to love stories (I think, at least mine is) and they have been used throughout history. Now you got me all curious about what your new blogs will be about ;).

One of my goals for 2010 is to help and connect with as many people as possible. I keep telling this goal to everyone. I don't know why. I guess there's something inside me that really wants to go in that direction.

It feels like an awesome direction though, so I'm not complaining. I'm along for the ride. Have an awesome day!

Hi Eric - It's a great technique. I've done something similar over the years, for myself and with clients, and years back there was actually a study done with homeless veterans in recovery. They were asked to tell a future story about what their lives would be like when they attained their goals, especially around getting and keeping work. The study found there was a much greater chance they would succeed if they frequently did the storytelling activity, especially with other people as witness. It not only makes the goals more real, but it gives accountability too. So it's neat you've tapped into that. And best of luck with those goals!
